| 一般的には、 1970年代にSOLAR（ソーラー・レコーズ）で“And The Beat Goes On””Rock Steady”などの大ヒットを飛ばしたソウル・コーラス・グループ、 双子のスコット兄弟をツイン・リードとして1960年代の半ばに結成、米西海岸を中心に活動をはじめ、1970年代にSoul Train（ソウル・トレイン）が主宰するレーベルと契約。 その後、SOLARへ移籍後に活躍をした情緒豊かなメロディーと美しいハーモニーでダンサブルなナンバーからバラードまで巧みに歌いあげるその歌唱力が魅力。 てなところですが 1970年代中盤にディスコでステップを踏んで活躍されていた世代の方々には気に入っていただけると思います。 残念ながら1970年代には日本のDISCOに合ったコーラス グループがたくさん有るので目立たなかったのかもしれません。それに、Whispersが本領を発揮できたのはEW&Fの全盛期と被ってしまうので、EW&Fにた感じのグループを探すということをしなければWhispersni気が付かないで終わってしまうか、ダンサブルなナンバーを求めてしまうと候補から外れていってしまうという憂き目にあったのかもしれないので日本では知名度が上がることがなかったのかもしれませんね・・ 私はというと、ROCK命まではいかないにしても、聴いていたROCKでは経験できなかったグルーブを聴かせてくれた。気づかさせてくれたEW&Fの魅力にドップリはまり、 ROCK以外のジャンルを受け入れてしまった後に、レコード専門店で黒人系の売り場を徘徊するようになっていたころ、なぜか「Love For Love」をバイトはしていたけど 決して多くは無かった小遣いでジャケット買い^^ 買った後で「ハッ」と 「レンタルでも良かったじゃん」と気が付いて帰りにレンタル屋を回ったけどない事を確認できて安心したという・・・ しかし・・・たまたまレコードをかけた時間が夜だったせいもあるのか？ 見事にはまる。 EW&Fにはないやさしいコーラスにしびれてしまった。大人になった今では”声で心持っていかれてしまう”というのがぴったり当てはまるような気がする。 ROCKをベースやドラムのコード進行で聴くことが多かった自分がEW&Fを効く様になってボーカルのメロディーラインにも耳を傾けることができるようなっていたからかもしれない。 EW&Fが太陽の下で聞く音楽ならWhispersは夜の薄暗い部屋やナイト ドライブの環境が良く合う。 やさしいメロディーだから寝てしまうということはなく（自分だけかもしれないが・・・）メローな旋律や歌詞が進行していても妙に乗れる曲もある。 アップテンポの曲はEW&Fほどインパクトがありキャッチーな曲は多くは無い・・・けど、1980年代に入ってからのスローバラードのできはEW&Fに勝るとおもっている。 今となってはそんな機会はないんですけど^^;デートなどでかけられると行けちゃうかも・・・的なWhispers お酒の味もひと味もふた味も変わってくるから不思議ですよね音楽って ついでにEW&Fがらみでいうと、EW&Fのモーリス・ホワイトのスローなバラードにはまった人ははまる可能性大。 その筋の楽曲センスは素晴らしいと思う。なぜ、Wikiでウィスパーズがないのか不思議？？？英語Wikiでもそんなに記述がない・ MOTOWNじゃなくてSOLARだからなのか？ 1970年代はUSチャートでもUS R&Bでもそこそこだったのが、〜1980年代になるとほぼ上位の常連になったのにね・・・ ヒット曲はFUNKやソウルなのでけど、Whispersの真骨頂はラブ バラード、イントロでやられる。うっとりさせられてしまう。愛じゃなくて、ラブだ〜〜、やさしいラブってこんな感じじゃんってくらいラブ^^ 1970年代のアルバムはファンク色が色濃く感じられる。EW&Fのファンクみたいに傑出した楽曲は少ないけど、正統派ファンクを楽しめる（何が正統派っていうのは無いとは思っているけど・・・DISCOじゃない・・・でも、自然と体が・・・的な）やソウルも、あぁこれをソウルっていうんだな・・・的な 1980年代になると、アルバム名が「The Whispers」として、新生Whispersとでもいうのか？もう濡れちゃう・・・って曲の目白押しで・・・絶対に、いやらしいくらいよくこんなメロディーが書けるなって思うくらいにやらしい・・・Whispersのカラーとして意識し始めた感じを受ける。エコー掛け過ぎじゃんな音なんだけどそれがまた・・・いける^^さらに、グルーブも取り入れてきてベースを追いかけても心地よい曲が増えてくるから21世紀に聴いていても全然古くない（と思う・・・） おもなアルバムをを買うと27枚にもなるので、1980年の「The Whispers」からどうぞ^^ 「The Whispers（1980）」はRemaster版が2005年に出ているのでそちらをおすすめします。 20112年現在まだ活躍していらっしゃる素晴らしい方々です。 丸の内COTTONクラブで2011年末〜2012年始に3時間ものショーを見せてくれています。 若いころはさほど似ている感じはしてなかったっけど、お年を召されにつれだんだん似てきて^^かつ、某フセイン氏に見えてきたりして |

| 自分はここから聞き始めた世代で高校1年生だった音楽というものに目覚め始め洋楽=ROCKではない事やそのころの大半の歌謡曲は歌としてはいいんだけど心躍るような昂揚感や心にしみわたるメロディーみたいな？音楽は無い事に気が付き洋楽探訪の旅に出始めたことにEW&Fの後に知り衝撃を受けちゃいました。DeBargeやUntouchablesも合わせてどのグループも好きですけどコーラスという意味ではウィスパーズほど曲とコーラスがマッチしたグループは無いのではないかと・・・なぜこれほど日本での知名度が低いのか？まぁ、売り方もあるのでしょうけど・・・不思議。万人がソウルが好きってわけではないからね。ラップはかっこいいけど情緒がない気がしてならない。それに大人になってくるとラップはもういらない感じがしているし、 ところで、このアルバムは前作から2年の時を経てリリースされたアルバム。音の厚みもグッと増え（とはいえEW&Fのマルチトラックにはかなわないが・・・）、デジタル機器を導入したようで洗練されたアレンジでベタなソウル、ファンクバンドとは呼べなくなるほどの変貌ぶり マイケル・ジャクソンのスリラーが無ければ1位だったのにね・・・ 後々リリースされる「Just Get Better With Time」より出来は良い気がするんだよな〜 US R&Bチャート 2位 |

| ウィスパーズの全盛期の中でも一番のアルバムでしょう。8曲中、6曲がバラード曲。ウィスパーズが得意だったBGMとして静かに流れている綺麗な曲ではなく、曲の途中からメロディーに触れてしまうと心をグッとつかまれてやさしく抒情的なメロディーに引き込まれてしまう曲に仕上がっています。 もう飽きたなと思っていても曲を流せば心を持っていかれてしまう。。。ニール・ダイヤモンドも心が優しくなれる曲だけど、ウィスパーズはまた違った意味でやさしい心になれる曲を聴かせてくれます。 ヘッドフォンで聞くというよりそれなりのスピーカーがあれば小音量でもイヤホンではなく耳で、いや、体で聴き手欲しいと思います。 US R&Bチャート 3位 Platinum |
